Guests from all over the world love Numero Uno’s location, service, and value. Our reviews reinforce why our San Juan, Puerto Rico hotel rooms and vacation rentals have the reputation as one of the finest hotels in San Juan, Puerto Rico. And remember, no matter what style of lodging you choose at Numero Uno, all accommodations are just steps away from the famous Ocean Park Beach!
Fodors.com: "Although the name refers to the hotel's address, Numero Uno is how guests rate this small hotel. It's common to hear people trading stories about how often they've returned to this relaxing retreat. Behind a whitewashed wall is a patio where you can catch some rays beside the small pool, enjoy a cocktail at the bar, or dine at Pamela's, the excellent restaurant. A few steps away is a sandy beach where you can relax on beach chairs and under umbrellas, with full cabana service. Instead of the usual tropical colors, the stylish rooms are decorated in shades of cream and brown, with custom-made furnishings, including sleek writing desks."
NY Times, Sophisticated Traveler Magazine: "The steady susurrus of the waves only yards away, an informal book-filled sitting room positioned with a view over the broad beach, 12 rattan furnished bedrooms…what a bonus to find them in the middle of San Juan at Numero Uno Guest House."
NY Times, Travel Section: "Pamela's is right on the beach at the Numero Uno Guest House. Popular at lunch, Pamela's serves a Caribbean menu that includes a sandwich of marinated chicken, melted Manchego cheese and roasted red peppers, and an entree of grilled Jamaican jerk shrimp and coconut corn arepa, with tamarind barbecue sauce and guava coulis. There is air-conditioning but there are also tables outside on the beach."
Caribbean Travel & Life: "Take a break to make dinner reservations at Pamela's in the Numero Uno Guest House on Santa Ana Street. Pamela's seaside setting and fabulous Caribbean fusion menu have been a closely guarded insider secret for years".
American Way Magazine: Benicio del Toro’s Friday at Numero Uno Guest House and Pamela's Caribbean Cuisine in Ocean Park: “This delightful inn is located on an exquisite little traveled beach. The inn also features an impressive restaurant, Pamela's Caribbean Cuisine. If you are looking for rooms in the sunny Caribbean, Numero Uno Guest House sits on San Juan's best stretch of sand in a quiet residential area."
Travel Holiday Magazine: Winner of 1998 Insider Award: "1 of the 50 best kept travel secrets in the world." "At Numero Uno you can't help gloating as you bask on a gorgeous stretch of San Juan sand. Resorts all over the Caribbean charge fortunes for their little patch of sand, yet this beach front hotel has it all for much less."
Frommer's Travel Magazine: "If you are looking for peace and quiet, one spot is so lovely it merits a special mention. Numero Uno Guest House is located in a 1950's beach house. This sparkling inn greets you with a cobblestone patio graced by a teal blue pool. A handful of tables overlooking the beach are part of the superb Pamela's Caribbean Cuisine. The recently renovated rooms boast amenities you might not expect, like a mini bar and high speed internet access. The included continental breakfast goes beyond the call of duty with selection of fresh fruit and baked goods."
New York Post: "We spent two nights at the lovely and low key Numero Uno Guest House, which had the feel of a New England B&B - but one with a gourmet restaurant, Pamela's Caribbean Cuisine. After tearing ourselves away from Numero Uno's incredible beach we headed out by rental car to Fajardo. "
Travel + Leisure Magazine: "If you are wondering where to stay, Numero Uno Guest House has a restaurant which serves tasty Caribbean fare and has rooms that are just steps from the beach."
News Day: "Pamela's Caribbean Cuisine is a jealously guarded "sanjuanero" secret. The first time I was there, the person that took me made me swear never to tell anyone."
Television Food Network: Pamela's Caribbean Cuisine and Numero Uno Guest House have also been featured on the television show "Food Fantasy" which aired on the Television Food Network.
“Numero Uno is #1 in our book! We love this place! It was one of our most relaxing vacations ever. We loved the pool, loved the people, and LOVED the pina coladas! The hotel is just the right size, the rooms are pretty & very clean, the service was great, it's literally right on the beach...what more could you ask for?” Sandra & Sean, Long Island, NY
“Numero Uno Guest House is our yearly get away. I hate to rave about this place, as I am in fear that more people will learn about it. But I have to be fair. We travel to the Caribbean once a year and this March was our third time in staying at Numero Uno. We love the people and we love the location. It is just so relaxing and all the people that work there want you to just relax. I can't say enough about it as it is just wonderful. Worth every penny we spend there and met some great people from other parts of the world.” Dave, Overland, KS
“Would not disagree with people's 5 star comments. My husband and I came to Puerto Rico and fell in love with Puerto Rico and Numero Uno. Not only did we find Caribbean's secret place, we also found what we now call "our second home." Big writers discovered the place, we came back this year to stay and it has renovated into a total oasis. The balcony overlooking the ocean is a place you can sit and watch for hours, the service is excellent, the atmosphere day or night is truly romantic and the rooms really make you feel at home. We've stayed at first class hotels but have not found a "guesthouse" that offers "twice daily maid service!" (They folded our clothes piled up on our bed.) Now that's what you call vacation!” Maryrose, Boston, MA
“The next best thing to Nirvana. My husband and I stayed there on our first vacation together when we were dating and fell in love not only with one another, but also with Puerto Rico and Numero Uno on the beach. The atmosphere the service and the food were all excellent. We have since returned to enjoy our honeymoon there. Much to our surprise the hotel improved even more. We still loved the atmosphere, the service and the food. It is simply perfect. Can't wait to return.” Andrea, Philadelphia, PA
“The Best Place to Stay in PR. We have stayed here many times and have always found this B & B to be nothing less than perfect. The whole place is so clean, you could eat off the floor and there is the best balcony to sit and look at the ocean for hours. The staff could not be more friendly and helpful. The restaurant is "5 star" in my book. We always eat most of our meals there. I can hardly wait to go back. It always feels like coming home.” Wes, Cape Cod, MA
A Quiet Haven on the Beach “My wife and I go to Puerto Rico often and we always spend a few nights at Numero Uno to recharge ourselves. The place is comfortable, next to the beach, relaxing, and has really good coffee and a good internet connection. If I could get away with it, I would definitely telecommute from there. The service is excellent and the food is even better, it feels more like visiting your friends at a really large beach house. That is, if you have friends who can cook really, really well and then clean up after you. The dining room (Pamela's) extends out to the beach, and it is, without compare, my favorite place to eat in the Western Hemisphere. I might have had a better meal in New York or Europe, but they did not have tables on the beach. When I think back on all the hotels and inns I have stayed at in my many travels around the world, I have always felt like I was staying in a single room. At the Numero Uno, I always felt like I was staying in a retreat and a quiet haven on the beach." Konacoffee99, Lynnfield, Massachusetts
Breath taking Ocean view/Our Vacation won't be the same without Numero Uno Guess House, Ocean Park San Juan, PR "My family and I spent 10 days at Numero Uno Guest House and it was amazing!! Every morning we woke up to see the beautiful Ocean View. We enjoyed the delicious breakfast that was served, especially the delicious fresh fruit. The bed was comfortable and very clean, with large pillows. Our bathroom was large and clean as well. The staff was very friendly and quick to assist us. We never had any problems finding parking and there was no charge for parking in the area, unlike other hotels in the area. I would highly recommend this vacation spot to all my family and friends. We most definitely would go back and stay here!" Shirley C., Walden, New York
Great vacation spot!! Loved it will be back next year "Spent a week at Numero Uno Guest House and loved it. The location is perfect. Right on the beach in a quiet residential area called Ocean Park. The restaurant was excellent, we ate lunch and dinner on the beach and had drinks served to us as we lounged on our beach chairs on the beach. The food was delicious at the restaurant. Especially loved having dinner on the beach. The staff is friendly and were very helpful in recommending places to visit on the island and with arranging transportation. Our room was clean and comfortable and the staff responsive if we needed any extras. Relaxing and picturesque place to stay. We are already planning our next visit!!" Rosa C., Boston, Massachusetts
